Study-abroad scholarships come from governments, universities and private organisations. Most are merit-based and cover part of tuition; full scholarships are rare and competitive. Start 9 to 12 months before your intake, because many deadlines close before or with admission deadlines.
Where do scholarships come from?
- Governments: for example Chevening (UK), DAAD (Germany), Australia Awards and the Fulbright-Nehru programme (USA).
- Universities: automatic or application-based merit awards and fee waivers.
- Indian government schemes: such as the National Overseas Scholarship for eligible categories.
- Private foundations and trusts.
How do I write a strong application?
- Read the criteria and check you meet every one.
- Show specific achievements with evidence, not general claims.
- Explain how the course links to your plans and to India.
- Get strong references from people who know your work.
- Submit early and keep copies of everything.
