MBBS in Russia for Indian students
Russia has trained Indian doctors for decades and has many state medical universities with English-medium tracks. For practice in India, the programme must meet NMC rules on course length, internship, English teaching and licence eligibility. Students also need working Russian for patients in the clinical years.
NMC rules you must meet
To practise medicine in India after studying abroad, the National Medical Commission (NMC) Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate Regulations, 2021 require, in summary:
- NEET-UG qualification before admission.
- A course of at least 54 months, plus at least 12 months of internship at the same foreign institution.
- The whole course taught in English and completed at one university.
- Eligibility for a licence to practise medicine in the country where you studied.
- After returning: a further 12-month supervised internship in India and passing the licensing exam (FMGE, to be replaced by NExT).

How does admission work?
- Qualify NEET-UG and check your 12th PCB marks meet NMC and university minimums.
- Shortlist universities after checking each programme against NMC rules.
- Apply with your documents and receive an admission or invitation letter.
- Pay the first-year fee as the university instructs – directly to the university, never in cash to an agent.
- Apply for the student visa and get documents legalised or apostilled if required.
- Attend our pre-departure briefing, travel and complete registration on arrival.
Documents checklist
- Passport valid well beyond the course start date.
- 10th and 12th mark sheets and certificates.
- NEET-UG score card.
- Birth certificate, photographs and medical fitness certificate (including an HIV test where required).
- Bank or sponsor documents as the embassy requires.
When is the intake?
Most universities admit students for a September start, with applications from June to August after NEET-UG results.
Living in Russia
- Climate: long, very cold winters in most cities; hostels are centrally heated.
- Food: Indian mess or self-cooking in many hostels with large Indian student groups; confirm per university.
- Safety: follow university and embassy advice; register with the Embassy of India on arrival.
- Indian community: large student communities in several university cities.
